Mervyn Peake, British poet, artist and novelist best known for his Gormenghast books, drawing in the rubble of war ravaged Germany, June 1945. At the outbreak of the war, Peake applied to become a war artist. He was conscripted into the army, serving with the Royal Artillery and the Royal Engineers, but was never accepted as an official war artist with the British government. He did, however, serve in that capacity with smaller publications, visiting Germany and the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp as war artist for the Leader magazine in 1945, and also working for a time as a graphic artist with the Ministry of Information.

Lost in a masquerade This tumblr is a place for all my favourite things to co-exist, so pls read and absorb this next piece of information before deciding on whether to follow me or not. Some of my obsessions: history, especially the Third Reich, WWII and the Weimar/interwar years, David Bowie, Christoph Waltz, and non-human primates, namely Bonobos and Chimps. Therefore this blog will feature these things on a regular basis. They will be interspersed with other things I like from the world of film, photography and art, such as interesting photos, gifs and screencaps I may have made.
So if none of this appeals to you, or if for some reason you are offended by Third Reich images, you needn't bother following me!!
